Reflet d’une Europe musicale expressive, le genre de l’histoire sacrée a inspiré de grands noms tels Charpentier mais aussi Purcell, qui l'ont illustré en proposant des ouvrages où l’éloquence s’impose avec fougue et contraste. Ce programme présente le plus petit oratorio écrit par Purcell : The Witch of Endor. Mettant en musique la rencontre de Saül, Samuel et la sorcière d'Endor, ce petit ouvrage trouve son reflet dans les ouvrages français de Charpentier, dont l’ensemble fait entendre Le Reniement de Saint-Pierre au coeur de son programme.
